The easiest and cheapest way is to buy directly from us through the website, but our grape juice is also available in various outlets and restaurants. Please see our list of stockists for a place near you.
Our juice is made from 100% wine grapes. Other grape juices are made from table grapes.
Table grapes are bred for their moisture content: to be refreshing over summer. Wine grapes, on the other hand, are developed for their concentrated flavours, richness, and high natural sugars. It is like comparing apples to oranges! Grape juice made from wine grapes will therefore always have more concentrated flavours, be richer, and therefore be much healthier.
The goodness comes essentially from the skin colour. The much higher ripeness levels achieved in wine grapes means that the colour pigments are that much deeper and more concentrated – making it one of the healthiest juices available. The antioxidant levels are similar to those in a glass of wine.
As mentioned above, table grapes are bred for their moisture content and so produce very large berries and crops. Wine grapes are more concentrated partly because they produce much smaller berries and crops. You simply do not get as much grape juice from the same area of grapevines when you are using wine grapes. We also take just as much care over the grapes we use to make our juice, as we do with the grapes we use to make our wine. It is just this care which makes our juice so good for you, but also slightly more expensive.
Our juice can be happily consumed by everyone: from children, to expectant mothers, to the elderly. It is best served chilled and can be enjoyed straight, or diluted with sparkling water. Please see our serving suggestions for more ideas.
No, there is absolutely no sugar added to any Heron’s Flight Grape Juice. Our juice is made from 100% grapes, and nothing else. Like all fruits, however, there are natural sugars present in the grapes we use to make our juice, and so also in the juice.
No, there are no additives or preservatives added to Heron’s Flight Grape Juice. The method we use to keep our juices from spoiling is called Pasteurisation, which is the same as most fruit juices and involves heating the juice before it goes into the bottle.
Drinking red grape juice helps support a healthy heart. There is extensive research and literature which describes the levels of antioxidants and vitamins present in red grape juice. Red grape juices are also well stocked with Resveratrol; which among its other benefits, helps to reduce blood sugar.
Despite not containing any preservatives, the Pasteurization process that Heron’s Flight Grape Juice undergoes prior to bottling means that it will last for more than a year unopened. Each bottle has a ‘best before’ date stamped onto it. Like all other fruit juices, however, once you open Heron’s Flight Grape Juice – it will last for approximately a week, and must be kept refrigerated.
Yes we do. Heron’s Flight Vineyard was one of the first vineyards to be planted in the fledgling wine district of Matakana, just north of Auckland. We still grow our grapes primarily to make wine, and we are the only vineyard in New Zealand that specialises solely in Italian grape varieties.
